January – ice, ice, baby!

Vanilla Ice jokes aside, January in Oklahoma is a very temperamental time of year.  The temperature can range from something so bone-chilling cold that you think you must have gone to visit a place near the artic circle, to a beautiful, sunny, day that registers in the mid-fifties.  Really, though, the temperature doesn’t matter all that much because the wind can negate anything that the thermometer says.

July – which way will the weather go?

July in Oklahoma—that’s something to think about!  On the one hand, it could be well over one hundred every day of the month without a single drop of rain.  On the other hand, there could be buckets of rain, but the temperature will only be in the mid-nineties.  Truly, Oklahoma is divided on which way to go, with Oklahoma City sitting right in the middle of it as the eastern half of the state is often humid and muggy, while the western half of the state is so arid in parts of the grasslands that it can be like a mini-desert in areas.

August: sunburn in the shade

There is a time of year in Oklahoma when you can sunburn in the shade and when water doesn’t even make a difference as even the heartiest of plants will start to wilt under the oppressive heat.  This time of year is the month of August.  No matter what, rain or shine, you will surely see your thermometer hit the one hundred degree plus mark at least once or twice in a month.  There have even been cases where the thermometers were stuck at over a hundred degrees for the entire thirty-one day stretch.
