I’ve driven past Jeff’s Country Café on Classen very often. I pass it every time I go to the grocery store, in fact. However, I’d only eaten there once, and that was five years ago. When my mom was in town the other day, we decided to stop in and see how Jeff’s was. The result: cheap food that tasted great.

The Mayflower Congregational Church has a number of different speakers come in each year. For August, they have three scholars speaking as part of their 2009 Distinguished Pulpit Series. All three are speaking on very interesting topics, and if you happen to be in town and interested in religion, you may enjoy visiting Mayflower.
The speaker for August 2nd is Rev. Dr. Lisa Wolfe. Rev. Wolfe is currently working on a project involving the Biblical figures of Ruth, Esther, Judith, and the Song of Songs. Are you going to be in OKC in August? If so, be ready for some heat! While temperatures have cooled down lately (in early July, we were in the triple digits every day!), August is traditionally the hottest month in the state. Take the time to cool off and enjoy some of these fun events.

I don’t often take the time to mention collection events, but I did want to briefly tell you all about the Caring for Kids Book Giveaway that’s happening on August 14 at the Metro Transit Downtown Transit Center. From 7 until 10 am, the staff will be giving away over 1,000 books to children, teens, and adults. Their goal is to get people, especially kids, interested in books and reading.
