With all of the hoopla surrounding the opening of the new outlet mall in Northwest Oklahoma City I was a little hesitant to go and visit them for myself. One reason is that I happened to drive by the mall soon after it opened and saw that people were parking on the side of the street almost a half mile away just to go shopping. I promptly decided that I was going to avoid the onslaught of the shopping lemmings and the mall until after it had died down.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the third Monday of every January, and this year, that date is the 16th (Dr. King’s actual birthday is the 15th). This national holiday is celebrated in a variety of ways. This year, there are several events going on in Oklahoma City.
The day will start off with a prayer breakfast at 7:00 am. It will be held at the Reed Conference Center at Rose State College in Midwest City, and there is a cost of $10 per person to cover food. At 9:00 am, a silent march will begin at the Freedom Center in OKC. The march, a tribute to the marches done as part of the civil rights movement, will end at the Oklahoma History Center.
