Oklahoma Art & Music Magazine Moves Online

Oklahoma, especially Oklahoma City, has a lot of cool little independent publications.  One of these is NONzine, a free arts, entertainment, and events magazine that was distributed in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and a few other areas.  The magazine included short stories and poetry from local writers, color artwork from artists, event news and reviews, CD and band reviews, and a lot more.  It was one of the most unique publications in Oklahoma City, and I greatly enjoyed reading it for the past two years.  The entire publication was done by two guys, which makes it even more impressive.

Sadly, the economy and rising print costs have driven NONzine out of print.  So why am I talking about it now?  Because they are in the process of re-launching the magazine as an online publication.  They’re planning a lot of new stuff for the publication, including more content.  What’s even better is that, as an online publication, NONzine will be available to everyone, not just those of us who actually live in Oklahoma.  If you’ve moved out of the state but still want to keep up with the art community, this is a great way to stay in touch.  Of course, you don’t have to be from Oklahoma to enjoy many of the articles, stories, artwork, and other pieces.  While there’s not much there right now, the new NONzine website ( is set to launch on December 3rd.

Other places for NONzine news:

NONzine’s MySpace Blog contains NONzine’s official blog post about the change to an online publication., the blog for Alive Records, posted a review that appeared in an issue of NONzine. has a video of the POP Surrealism Show that NONzine helped host. posted an image of their ad that ran in NONzine on their blogspot.

The folks at are big fans of NONzine’s music reviews.
