The Wedge Pizzeria

I recently had a chance to eat lunch and then dinner (well, not in the same day!) at the Wedge Pizzeria.  Located at 4709 North Western Avenue, the Wedge is an unique place to have a pizza pie.

One of the great things about the Wedge is their variety of toppings.  They have pizzas that include walnuts, figs, goat cheese, prosciutto, kalamata olives, and much more in addition to standard toppings like pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, and olives.  All of their pizzas are baked in a brick oven on their signature crust.  They also have some very interesting appetizers like proscuitto wrapped pears, meatballs, and more.  If you’re looking for a nice beverage to compliment your pizza, the Wedge serves a variety of beer and has a nice wine list.

One of the downsides to the Wedge is that the building itself is fairly small.  They do have outdoor seating, however, which is very nice.  A collection of outdoor heaters allows diners to eat outdoors even when it’s a little chilly.  However, when I ate dinner at the Wedge on a Friday night around 6 pm, it was quite crowded.  There was an almost constant line of people waiting for a table, and it was so loud it was hard to have a conversation without raising my voice.  They also have a small parking lot.

Don’t let that discourage you, though.  When I had lunch there, there was plenty of seating.  Likewise, even if you do have to wait, the staff is very friendly, and service is very quick.  Their prices are affordable: a pizza with two toppings is only $11, and it’s large enough for two people to share.

This is my absolute favorite pizza place! The quality of the ingrediants is outstanding and I love being able to modify the standard items. My husband and I had lunch at the Western location yesterday – it was packed. They were really busy but everything was excellent. We split a Wedge salad – had them hold the olives. I also like the Spinich salad but substitute pine nuts for the walnuts – a little too spicy for me. We ordered the flatbread appetizer to take most of it home and eat later – we had some for lunch today (Yum!). My husband was introduced to his new favorite beer here a while back, Amstel Light. We really appreciate being able to order one pizza but have different things on each half. My husband loves a tradional pizza – marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, sausage, onions, mushrooms while I am a huge fan of a modified Napoli – toasted walnuts, asiago cheese, rosemary, pancetta, arugla but instead of the arugula I get pears (recommended by a waitress there). This way we are both happy and don’t have to order 2 whole pizzas. To finish off the meal yesterday, we had some raspberry sorbet – light & tart. I don’t think we have ever had a bad experience. Once they had a problem and had to re-do our pizza. Because it was late, they sent us a complimentary meatball appetizer. Great food and great service – the only place I want to go for pizza.
