Convention Update – TrekExpo 2009

If you love science fiction and fantasy, mark the last weekend of June.  That’s when TrekExpo is held in Tulsa.  The largest pure science fiction convention in Oklahoma (Soonercon is also large, but it’s not purely a sci-fi television/movie convention), TrekExpo always has a large number of guests.  Most are from the various Star Trek series, although they always try to have several other sci-fi series’ stars there as well.

This year is the convention’s twentieth anniversary, and they have a large group of stars lined up.  The headliners are Leonard Nimoy (Spock from the original Star Trek and the new Star Trek movie) and Avery Brooks (Captain Sisko from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine).  Nimoy will only be at the convention on Saturday, while Brooks will only be there Sunday.  Other stars include Marina Sirtis (Counselor Troi from Star Trek: The Next Generation), Mira Furlan (Ambassador Delenn on Babylon 5), John DeLancie (Q on Star Trek), and Corin Nemec (Jonas Quinn on Stargate SG-1), plus many more.

In addition to listening to the actors talk, you’ll find a large dealers room and can purchase autograph tickets to get photos signed.  You can also have your picture taken with the stars, too.  The convention will be held June 26-28 at the John Q. Hammons UMAC Arena in Tulsa.  Some tickets can be purchased online, but some autograph tickets will only be available at the door.  For more information, including directions, a full guest list, and more, visit

Robin Bailey will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the third year in a row.

The Star Trek Appearances blog includes a list of every Trek actor who will be at TrekExpo and beyond.  It’s a great resource for anyone who loves attending conventions.
