Half-Priced Books Comes to OKC

If you love buying cheap books (like I do), then you’ll love Half-Priced Books.  The chain has been around for awhile, but I don’t think there has ever been a store in Oklahoma (although a blog listed below says there has—I wasn’t aware of that).  The closest one I knew of was in Dallas.  Well, now there’s Half-Priced Books in Oklahoma City, and it has been open since May 21st.  It’s a great store for anyone who is looking for some new reading material.

The store is located at May and 63rd in northwest Oklahoma City in a small shopping center that has been empty since the Blockbuster and CompUSA stores went out of business.  Inside Half-Priced Books, you’ll find aisle after aisle of used books.  Most are in really good condition, and the most you’ll pay for any of them is one-half the cover price.  Some are even cheaper.  I found some graphic novels for $2.68—the cover price was $8.99.

In addition to books, Half-Priced also carries records, CDs, magazines, DVDs and a very small supply of games and other miscellaneous.  You’ll find some sections have a large variety—romance, for example, is always well stocked.  Other areas sometimes have rather slim choices.  But because Half-Priced is always buying used books from people, their selections tend to change often.

If you’ve got shelves and shelves of books at home that you want to get rid of, you can take them into Half-Priced and actually get cash for them.  There’s no set amount of money for each book—instead, a Half-Priced employee will evaluate the books based on their condition, the demand for that genre at the store, and other factors.  Damaged books may not be accepted at all.

Half-Priced Books is a great place to pick up cheap novels, CDs, DVDs, and more.  They even have a small selection or rare books for collectors.  If you’re an avid reader, you’ll love the store.

Blogs about Half-Priced Books:

Rod Lott on Bookgasm mentions how glad he is that OKC finally has a Half-Priced Books, plus he talks a bit about his latest Half-Priced finds.

The Exile Bibliophile has an image of the store and mentions that there was a Half-Priced in OKC before.

Amy of Amy’s Stocking Stuffers talks about what great items you can find at Half-Priced Books.
