Caring for Kids Book Giveaway

I don’t often take the time to mention collection events, but I did want to briefly tell you all about the Caring for Kids Book Giveaway that’s happening on August 14 at the Metro Transit Downtown Transit Center.  From 7 until 10 am, the staff will be giving away over 1,000 books to children, teens, and adults.  Their goal is to get people, especially kids, interested in books and reading.

This year’s giveaway is just one part of the sixth annual Caring for Kids Book-by-Book literacy campaign that continues all year long.  The campaign is sponsored by Bank of Oklahoma, Barnes and Noble, and the Junior League of OKC, and together hundreds of volunteers have donated time and books to the cause.  If you want to be a part of the event or want to volunteer, head downtown on the 14th and talk to any of the staff at Metro Transit.

Blogs about the book giveaway:

NewsOK mentioned the event on their events blog.

BNet talks about the Bank of Oklahoma and their participation in Tulsa’s book drive.  The book drive gathered books that were later distributed through the giveaway program.
