Mayflower Congregational Speakers

The Mayflower Congregational Church has a number of different speakers come in each year.  For August, they have three scholars speaking as part of their 2009 Distinguished Pulpit Series.  All three are speaking on very interesting topics, and if you happen to be in town and interested in religion, you may enjoy visiting Mayflower.

The speaker for August 2nd is Rev. Dr. Lisa Wolfe.  Rev. Wolfe is currently working on a project involving the Biblical figures of Ruth, Esther, Judith, and the Song of Songs.  She currently holds the Endowed Chair of Hebrew Bible at Oklahoma City University, and she has been ordained by the United Church of Christ.

Next, Dr. Imad Enchassi will speak on August 9th.  Dr. Enchassi is CEO and president of the Islamic Society of Greater Oklahoma City, and he regularly speaks in other speaker series around the world.  In addition to his duties as president, he is also a member of the human resources department of the University of Phoenix.

Finally, the series’ third speaker is Dr. Charles Kimball.  Dr. Kimball will take the pulpit on August 16.  He is a Presidential Professor and the Director of Religious Studies at the University of Oklahoma.  In 2006, he was named the Rita and William Bell Visiting Professor at the University of Tulsa.  He has been ordained by the Baptist church and holds a Th.D. from Harvard.

All three talks begin at 10:45 am at the Mayflower Congregational Church located at 3901 NW 63rd Street.  They are also broadcast on KOKC 1520AM one week after the speaker gives his/her speech.  The series takes place during the months when Mayflower’s normal pastor, Dr. Robin Meyers, is speaking at other churches and events.  Want to know more about the speakers or the church?  Visit them online at www.mayflowerucc.org.
