Okie’s Café

It’s fairly unusual for me to be on the south side of Oklahoma City, but I happened to be running a few errands that took me down that way a few days ago, and I drove past Okie’s Café.  I had eaten there once before when it was under a different name (I really can’t even remember what it was called then), so I decided to stop in for lunch.

Like many of the little cafés scattered across OKC, Okie’s is a true old fashioned diner.  You seat yourselves at either tables or at the bar, everyone there is incredibly friendly, and the menu is varied and cheap.  They’ve got burgers, sandwiches, breakfast foods, and various dinner specials.  I had a bacon cheeseburger, and it was huge.  The fries were also incredibly good.  I paid around $6 for the meal, plus drink and tip.

The atmosphere at Okie’s is very laid back and relaxed.  It’s almost like a truck stop atmosphere in a way, with waitresses chatting with the regulars while new customers are made to feel very welcome.

I probably won’t get back to Okie’s any time soon—it’s a little out of my way—but if I am over on the south side again, I’ll certainly make it a point to stop in.  You can find them at 6072 South Western Avenue.
