The Oklahoma City Boat Show

Sometimes, you just wonder about things.  Like why do we have a boat show in the middle of winter?  Well, I really can’t answer that question, but if you love to boat around on one of Oklahoma’s lakes or fish, you’ll enjoy a trip to the 2008 Oklahoma City Winter Boat Show.  The show runs from January 24th to the 27th and is held at the Oklahoma City State Fairgrounds.

This year marks the 51st annual boat show, so it’s been going on for quite some time.  While I don’t think the 2008 show will be quite as huge as last year’s (they had a huge blow out for the 50th anniversary show), it will still be a pretty large event.  They use several buildings at the fairgrounds, and in addition to the boats, there are snacks and such available if you’re planning to make it an all-day affair.

I’ll admit, I’ve never been to the OKC Boat Show.  The idea of spending a day looking a boats doesn’t exactly sound like a great time to me (although I could probably take an hour or so looking at the shiny little ships I can’t afford).  The fishing stuff really doesn’t interest me.  However, my dad and several of my brothers hit the boat show every year.  It’s like Christmas in January for them, and I wouldn’t even classify them as hardcore boat enthusiasts.  I’m sure that anyone who really loves boating would love the show.

If you’re looking to buy a new boat, you’ll find all of the latest models at the show.  It’s actually not a bad time to think about buying a boat.  True, you probably won’t want to take it out for a spin on Lake Hefner right away (especially if the weather is snowy!), but by purchasing your boat now, you won’t have to worry about it in the spring.

If you’re interested in buying a boat or just want to check out what the newest models look like, head on down to the fairgrounds at the end of January and see what the OKC Boat Show has to offer.  Just be careful…you might end up taking one of them home with you!
