In the Mood to Try Something New and A Little Different? Try RePUBlic Gastropub

Every now and then I go to a place not sure of what to expect, and I am more than a little surprised.  My experience with RePUBlic Gastropub was like this.  My friends and I went to the restaurant and one of the first things that I noticed was how busy it was.  We met on a Friday night, but we were able to get there relatively early (before 7:00), and it was still more than an hour wait before we were able to get a table.

Usually having to wait this long would automatically put me off, but the atmosphere at the restaurant was fun and that was helpful.  The design is very sleek and modern, but the feeling that we got from the staff was welcoming, and they had a wide selection of beer to choose from that we could enjoy while we waited.  And, once we were seated our waiter was able to help us navigate the menu and place our orders successfully, which was a feat since the restaurant has so much to offer.

Since we were eating somewhere new and different I decided to take a chance and ordered the Ahi Tuna Tartar and the Republic Scotch Egg.  I was very pleasantly surprised to find that these selections were very well prepared and tasty.  It can be difficult to find well prepared raw fish selections in Oklahoma City, but this was truly an exception to the rule.  My friend decided to err more on the side of caution and he chose to get a burger; however, he said that it was one of the juiciest burgers he’s had in a long time.

The prices were moderate and the atmosphere was fun, but it might be a little bit intimidating to someone who does not appreciate large crowds.  If you want to try RePUBlic Gastropub, but you do not want to deal with the wait or the crowd, then the best option is to go during the day or on a weeknight when it will not be so busy.  The restaurant is located in the newly built Classen Curve, which is on Classen just a little North of NW Expressway.

Here are some other blogs that mention RePUBlic Gastropub:

The EatAroundOKC blog has another nice first impression of the restaurant.

Here’s another good review from the Okie Foodie blog.

And one more review from Youtips Food.
