Santa is Coming!

Oklahoma City’s Downtown in December events have already begun, even though it’s not quite December yet.  Downtown in December, now in its ninth year, started on November 25th and will run to January 1st.  Many of the events and activities are traditional ones that we’ve seen in years past, but there are a few new things to enjoy.  Even better, since a number of Oklahoma corporations are sponsoring events, some of them are completely free!

Let’s talk about these free things first (everyone loves free admission, after all).  First, Oklahoma City Community Foundation is providing Free Museum Sundays.  Coming up on December 4th, you can get free admission to the American Banjo Museum and the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum.  On the 11th, the Memorial Museum and the OKC Museum of Art are both free.  Finally, on the 18th, get in to the Gaylord-Pickens Oklahoma Heritage Museum for absolutely nothing!

The Oklahoman is providing free evening canal cruises every Thursday through Sunday in December!  Even if you’ve taken a canal ride before, you’ve never seen it light up like it is now.  The boats run from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm.

Finally, there’s Devon’s Saturdays with Santa.  This free event will be held on Saturday (12/3, 12/10, and 12/17) at the Myriad Gardens Pavilion.  Visit with Santa, take pictures, and do some arts and crafts.

In addition to these free events, there are other things going on in Downtown in December.  The Devon Outdoor Ice Rink and the Chesapeake Snow Tubing activities return.  There are admission fees for both of these (two hours on the rink is $8 or $5 with your skates, while the snow tubing is $10 for an hour and a half).  These are great activities for the entire family!

On December 10th, head out to the SandRidge Santa Run.  The Run includes a run/walk 5K, a one mile fun run, and a children’s dash.  Events start at 9:00 am.

Took the grandkids last night for the free boat ride. The boat driver told us there were no free rides and he closed down at 7pm. Major disappointment,
