Oklahoma City through my eyes

The Outlet Shoppes at Oklahoma City

With all of the hoopla surrounding the opening of the new outlet mall in Northwest Oklahoma City I was a little hesitant to go and visit them for myself.  One reason is that I happened to drive by the mall soon after it opened and saw that people were parking on the side of the street almost a half mile away just to go shopping.  I promptly decided that I was going to avoid the onslaught of the shopping lemmings and the mall until after it had died down.

However, as the holiday season approached I found myself wondering what kind of deals they might possibly be able to offer me, and although I was still uncertain of the crowds, I decided to brave the outdoor outlet mall.  And what I found was surprising.  First of all, even though the parking lot was full and it was seemed like there had to be a ton of people in that mall, it was not as packed as many other venues.  I was easily able to navigate between stores and look for different deals and options in the stores.

While I had been doubtful that the deals in these stores would really be that good, the truth is that they were far better than I expected.   I was able to find quite a few bargains, which helped me to buy for everyone on my list at prices that were more than reasonable.  Not only that, but there were a number of stores that were unique to the outlet mall and offered interesting options that I had not even considered before.

One thing that I was not that fond of was the fact that the mall itself is outside.  There are covered sections and the overall flow of stores was good, but the fact remains that this is an outdoor mall in Oklahoma-a state notorious for extreme weather.  It could be as hot as a hundred and fifteen in the summer, and be snow and ice in the winter.  No matter how good the deals are, if I am faced with going to the outlet mall on one of these days versus a traditional indoor venue, I will pick the one with atmosphere controls.  But that could just be because I’m spoiled.

The outlet mall did run into some trouble during the construction phase.  Here’s a blog detailing some of the issues.
