Something a Little Different in OKC

Are you looking for some fun, different events to go to?  We’ve got you covered!  There are a lot of different performing arts events going on in Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas.  Here are a few highlights.

April 14: Art Walk in downtown Guthrie.  This festival features traditional artists showing in galleries and businesses in the downtown Guthrie area.  Artists are on hand at each venue to chat, and you can purchase their artwork, too.  Poets will also be reading their works at several venues.  Visit http://www.guthrieartwalk.com/ for more information.

April 20 – 22: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street at the Oklahoma City University Kirkpatrick Theater.

April 27th is a Trivia in HD contest at Science Museum Oklahoma.  It’s hosted by the Special Olympics and all entry fees and donations will go that charity.

The Miradas: Ancient Roots in Modern Mexican exhibit will be shown through May 5th.  This exhibit includes over 90 different paintings and photographs related to Mexican-American history and how that history has contributed to the cultures of both countries.

The Oklahoma City Museum of Art has two unique exhibits running through May 13.  The first is Princes Treasures: European Masterpieces.  This exhibit features over 80 objects from the 17th and 18th centuries.  Some are rather small, while others are huge.  These items come from all over Europe and include sculpture, glass, metalwork, textiles, dresses, prints, drawings, and more.

The second exhibit is Infinite Work in Progress, an art exhibit by Julie Heffernan.  This exhibit features twenty-one of her paintings on the relationship between nature and humanity.

Love fashion?  Then check out The Return of Elegance exhibit at the Oklahoma History Center.  This exhibit includes fashion from the last century, including evening wear and period accessories.  It runs through June 30.

Brandy McDonnell talks about the Princely Treasures exhibit.

The Oklahoma City Museum of Art blog talks about their exhibits and much more.

I was going to be in OK,C for a week with a group of friends from April 24-30. We have all checked your web site for information on what is going on, and for that time period it appears that nothing of our interest will be going on. The hotel we booked with, said there was a horse barrel race contest, but there is no evidence of it on this site. So, we are not going to OK,C, and settled on Seattle, WA

Hi Tim. The Festival of the Arts is going on the 24th through the 29th, if you’re interested in that. We will have an article about it up soon.
