Do you love tattoos and tattoo culture? If so, you’ll be very interested in the Ink Life Tour Tattoo & Music Festival. It’s coming to the Cox Convention Center April 13, 14, and 15, and it’s bringing a lot with it!
The Ink Life Tour is the world’s largest tattoo and music festival (according to their promotional materials, anyway). This three-day event is sponsored by the House of Pain Tattoo Studio in EL Paso, Texas, and will be visiting a number of other cities in addition to Oklahoma City. They’ll be in Texas, Florida, Missouri, and Wisconsin. In addition to many famous tattoo artists who are travelling with the festival, many of Oklahoma City’s top artists will be on hand, too.
There’s more than just tattoos at this festival: there’s also live music featuring many local bands, a magic show, and a suspension show performed by Aztlan Arts (this show is marked as “not for the squeamish”). Local bands will compete for a $2,000 prize at each city, including OKC. It’s a great way for our local musicians to get some attention. The headliners for the festival concerts are Days of the New and the Barb Wire Dolls.
Each day also features a different tattoo competition. For example, Friday’s themes include Asian tattoos, unusual and realistic ones, and Latino tattoos, among others. Saturday and Sunday have their own unique themes.
The doors open at noon on each day and close at 11:30 on Friday and Saturday and 9:15 on Sunday. If you’re interested in getting tattooed, you can pre-book your appointment on their website. Some artists, though, like those from the famous LA Ink, don’t pre-book, so you’ll want to be one of the first people in the doors to guarantee a spot. You may even want to get a weekend pass so you can be sure to get in some time with these famous artists.
Are you a local tattoo artist? It’s not too late to get in to the Ink Life Tour Festival. You have until April 13th to get your paperwork in.
Tickets are $20 a day or $35 for a weekend pass, which includes all events. The festival is held at the Cox Convention Center, and lodging is available at the nearby Renaissance Hotel. You can learn more about the festival and making reservations at http://www.inklifetour.com/.
