It’s Nearly Election Time!

I just wanted to remind everyone (as if you can’t go a day without hearing about it) that election day is coming up in Oklahoma.  If you haven’t registered and live in the state, you need to get your paperwork turned in as soon as possible.  If you’ll be in Oklahoma on business or vacation and want to vote, you’ll need to request an absentee ballot in your home state.  You’ll need to do this soon, too.

This election is looking to be a bit different in Oklahoma.  Historically, Oklahoma’s six electoral college votes go to the Republican candidate.  Usually the party wins by a landslide, too.  Now, I don’t want to get too much into politics (this isn’t the place), but I did want to comment on an interesting trend.  First, I’ve seen many yard signs around town for one candidate or the other.  This is somewhat unusual because we don’t generally see this many yard signs or, if we do, they’re between two candidates in a hotly contested local election, not a presidential election.

On top of that, I’ve seen many more yard signs for Democrat Barak Obama than I have for Republican John McCain.  That’s highly unusual.  These yard signs have been popping up in many different types of neighborhoods, too.  I’ve seen them in yards on streets I’d never drive down at night and in yards of million dollar houses.  It seems like Oklahomans are much more heavily involved in this election than any before, and I’m very interested to see how the vote turns out.

No matter which candidate you support, I urge everyone to get out and vote on November 4.  Be sure to get your absentee ballot if you won’t be in your state on the day, and get your registration paperwork in as soon as possible if you aren’t registered.
