Ingrid’s Kitchen is one of those places I’ve heard about but just, for whatever reason, never visited.  I recently had the chance to go there for lunch with a friend, and while the food was pretty good, the bakery is what blew me away.  You’ll be amazed at the sheer number of cakes, cookies, and other desserts Ingrid’s master bakers whip up each day.

April Means It’s Arts Festival Time!

It’s that time of year again: time for the Festival of the Arts!  This great event has been going on since 1967, and in a way, it’s not really spring here in OKC until the Arts Festival is in full swing.  This year, the festival will be April 24 through 29, and as always, it will be held at the Festival Plaza and Myriad Botanical Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City.  Admissions is free!  The festival opens at 11 a.m. each day and closes at 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.   On Sunday, the festival will end at 6 p.m.

Oklahoma Film Festivals and Movie Series

Are you looking for some good movies?  Sure, you could go to one of Oklahoma City’s many movie theaters—Harkins, TinselTown, The Warren—but you might be looking for something other than a popcorn flick.  Oklahoma has a number of film festivals and movie series, and many of them cost much less than going to a theater.  Here are a few different movie series and festivals going on this spring.  Check them out.  Many include great movies that are not only entertaining but also very educational.

The New I-40 Pedestrian Bridge

Construction has begun on a new Oklahoma City landmark: the I-40 Pedestrian Bridge, also called the SkyDance Bridge, will allow pedestrians to cross the new route of I-40 near Robinson Avenue.  It’s a part of the MAPS 3 downtown park, which will be built in 2013.  The bridge was designed by Professor Hans Butzer and is supposed to resemble the scissor-tailed flycatcher, Oklahoma’s state bird.

25th Annual Fall Peace Festival

Have you started your Christmas shopping yet?  Well, time is starting to tick down!  If you’re looking for some really unique or different gifts, we’ve got just the thing for you: the 25th Annual Fall Peace Festival.  This festival features more than 50 different local craftsmen and social justice groups.  It will be held on Saturday, November 12, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.  Admission is completely free, too!

The festival has two main features: shopping and entertainment.  Who doesn’t love at least one of those?  The shopping feature will be handled by local groups and artists.  You’ll find jewelry, clothing, and many other decorative items just in time for the holidays.  Plus, you’re sure to find at least one great holiday gift for someone.

September Events in OKC

Looking for something to do this September in Oklahoma City? Why not attend one of these events?

The Oklahoma History Center is hosting an event called “The Return of Elegance” all this month. It showcases 29 different evening gowns worn by top Oklahoma women from 1912 to 1985. A must-see if you’re into fashion.

While it’s not October yet, it is time for Oktoberfest in the Park at the Choctaw Creek Park. This event featuring German cuisine and beers takes place September 2-4 and 7-10.

Baseball season is wrapping up! September 2 – 5 is the last RedHawks game at the Bricktown Ballpark. They play against New Orleans.

The Paseo Fairy Ball

On Saturday, August 6, the Paseo district will host its annual Fairy Ball. The Fairy Ball includes two hours of live music, dancing, and more, and it’s a great evening for all ages. Children, of course, may get more out of it than others, but it is still a nice way of spending a lazy July evening. The Ball starts at 7:30 pm and ends at 9:30 pm.

Red Earth Native American Cultural Festival

Valentine’s Day in OKC

Every year, there are different events and specials in Oklahoma City for Valentine’s Day.  This special romantic day is a great day for celebration, so take your significant other out and show him or her an awesome time (and then go home and snuggle!).  Here are some great V-Day events happening this year.

If your significant other is a big fan of the OKC Thunder sports team, send them a personalized Valentine’s Day message and gifts delivered by the Thunder mascot Rumble the Bison.  He will make his deliveries from February 11 to the 14.  In addition to the gift basket you select, Rumble will take a picture with the recipient and sign autographs.
