Ink Life Tour Comes to OKC

Do you love tattoos and tattoo culture?  If so, you’ll be very interested in the Ink Life Tour Tattoo & Music Festival.  It’s coming to the Cox Convention Center April 13, 14, and 15, and it’s bringing a lot with it!

The Ink Life Tour is the world’s largest tattoo and music festival (according to their promotional materials, anyway).  This three-day event is sponsored by the House of Pain Tattoo Studio in EL Paso, Texas, and will be visiting a number of other cities in addition to Oklahoma City.  They’ll be in Texas, Florida, Missouri, and Wisconsin.  In addition to many famous tattoo artists who are travelling with the festival, many of Oklahoma City’s top artists will be on hand, too.

Halloween 2011 in OKC

Halloween is coming up!  Many different haunted houses and other spooky events are going on this month.  I’ve covered several of them in previous years (like Haunt the Zoo, FrightFest, and the Haunted Warehouse).  This year, I’d like to highlight a couple of other events in the area.  If you want something a bit different, you might want to take a trip to nearby Lawton for the Trail of Fear or head downtown and take a ghostly “Haunt the River” cruise.

Every year, there are different events and specials in Oklahoma City for Valentine’s Day.  This special romantic day is a great day for celebration, so take your significant other out and show him or her an awesome time (and then go home and snuggle!).  Here are some great V-Day events happening this year.

If your significant other is a big fan of the OKC Thunder sports team, send them a personalized Valentine’s Day message and gifts delivered by the Thunder mascot Rumble the Bison.  He will make his deliveries from February 11 to the 14.  In addition to the gift basket you select, Rumble will take a picture with the recipient and sign autographs.

The OKC Blizzard of 2009

Well, the weather certainly brought a surprise for Oklahoma City on Christmas Eve! I woke up early to go visit my grandparents, and what did I find? Blowing, swirling snow. It wasn’t sticking, however, and I thought it would be no problem to drive in. While visibility was certainly bad at times, I left early enough that it wasn’t horrible. After spending several good hours with family, I was ready to head back home and attend another Christmas Eve function.

Only in OKC – Coffy’s Cafe

Are you trying to get away from the fattening, unhealthy foods that seem to be all that fast food places serve?  If so, you may want to check out Coffy’s Café.  This new little café in OKC features all gluten-free and natural meals.  They have selections for just about any diet, including vegetarian.  I stopped by Coffy’s the other day and was quite surprised by the number of different things on their menu.  They had some incredibly tasty looking donuts, brownies, cakes, and cookies, all of which were gluten-free.  I tried one of their brownies, and it was very good.

Only in OKC: The Belle Isle Brewery

Looking for a great place to eat?  One of my favorite locations is the Belle Isle Brewery, a restaurant located in the upscale shopping center of 50 Penn Place.  While I can’t really afford to shop there (with the exception of the Full Circle Bookstore, which I’ll be covering in another post), the Belle Isle Brewery is a great place to eat that is really affordable.

The Belle Isle Brewery does, as the name suggests, have a number of beers available.  Not sure which one you want?  You can always ask for a sampler—you get four tiny little shots of beer to try out.  The restaurant also has several different types of wines and some mixed drinks if beer’s not your thing.

Half-Priced Books Comes to OKC

If you love buying cheap books (like I do), then you’ll love Half-Priced Books.  The chain has been around for awhile, but I don’t think there has ever been a store in Oklahoma (although a blog listed below says there has—I wasn’t aware of that).  The closest one I knew of was in Dallas.  Well, now there’s Half-Priced Books in Oklahoma City, and it has been open since May 21st.  It’s a great store for anyone who is looking for some new reading material.

Lee’s Sandwiches Comes to OKC…Finally!

For the past year, I’ve gone past the Lee’s Sandwiches site on Classen and wondered when, if ever, the store would be finished.  Well, this past summer, the restaurant finally opened.  I’ve eaten at Lee’s Sandwiches a few times, and I have to say, it’s quite an interesting place.

Lee’s Sandwiches serves a large variety of things.  The menu includes a mixture of Asian and European sandwiches, coffee, ice cream, and a number of other things.  You’ll find standard sandwiches like ham and cheese, roast beef, and turkey club on the European section.  If you’re looking for something a bit more exotic, you may want to try the jambon and pork roll, the Asian veggie sandwich, or Lee’s combination.

Spraygrounds in OKC

Lately, I’ve noticed something different about some of the parks in Oklahoma City.  Some of them have taken out some equipment (or added a new area) that’s full of tall pipes and such.  At first glance, I had no idea what this was all about.  Then I saw some kids pull on handles and press buttons.  Suddenly, the whole area looks like a rain storm—all those pipes turned out to have water sprinklers inside them.
