Oklahoma City is home to many great places to eat, some of which you won’t find anywhere else.  Since I love to eat, I thought I would share some of my favorite places to grab lunch or have a nice dinner while you’re in Oklahoma City.  As I have time (i.e., use this list as an excuse to eat out), I’ll write more in-depth articles about each place to eat so you can really get an idea of where you want to have your meals.

Nic’s Grill Has Great Food but Little Seating

Oklahoma City has a lot of different cool little burger joints, but none of them is quite as little Nic’s Grill.  This small building sits on the corner of Pennsylvania and 12th street, but without its sign, you’d think it was a small house or even a storage building.  However, don’t judge Nic’s by its size—it’s a really awesome burger place!

Great Ways to Save in Oklahoma City with the Keep it Local Card

If you are like me, then you probably like to go and explore the city and all that it has to offer as frequently as you can.  I have found that I am particularly fond of finding things that are local and are distinctively Oklahoman.  Because of this I was very excited to find out about the Keep it Local card.  I hadn’t read anything about it or seen any advertisements, but rather I noticed this stack of cards sitting on the countertop of my local coffee house.  So, I was excited to learn that this card offered a wide variety of discounts at local merchants that I would frequent anyway.  Plus, the ten dollars that I spent on the card was going to be used to help boost the local economy, which is something that appealed to me greatly.

Only in OKC – Coffy’s Cafe

Are you trying to get away from the fattening, unhealthy foods that seem to be all that fast food places serve?  If so, you may want to check out Coffy’s Café.  This new little café in OKC features all gluten-free and natural meals.  They have selections for just about any diet, including vegetarian.  I stopped by Coffy’s the other day and was quite surprised by the number of different things on their menu.  They had some incredibly tasty looking donuts, brownies, cakes, and cookies, all of which were gluten-free.  I tried one of their brownies, and it was very good.

Movie Theaters in OKC

Looking to catch a movie while you’re in Oklahoma City?  There are a number of theaters you can go to, but the largest (and, in my opinion, nicest) are Harkins, Dickenson Penn Square 10, AMC Quail Springs Mall 24, and Cinemark TinselTown.

Harkins

Harkins is the newest theater in Oklahoma City.  It’s one of the centerpieces of Bricktown, the revamped downtown area of Oklahoma City.  The theater has sixteen different screens, including the Cine Capri.  The Cine Capri is the largest movie screen in Oklahoma City, and if you really want to feel like you’re in the middle of the action, this is the theater for you.  The seats are incredibly comfortable, and all theaters have stadium seating, so you won’t be trying to look around anyone’s head.

Only in OKC – Rococo Restaurant

Looking for something a little different than the usual steak, seafood, or lobster?  Then you’ll want to try Rococo’s, an East coast restaurant that features some very different entrees.  Oh, sure, you can get a burger, fettuccine alfredo, or a chicken salad, but you can also try things like Prince Edward Island mussels, Long Island duck, or the roast rack of Colorado lamb.

Only in OKC – the Conservatory

Sometimes, you want to be among thousands of people at a huge concert, but sometimes, if you’re like me, you want to go to a smaller venue where you won’t be trapped in wall to wall people.  One of the best places to hang out with friends and listen to live music is the Conservatory, a small music venue and bar that books smaller groups and local bands.  The musical style is mostly indie and punk with a bit of Goth thrown in.

February 2008 in OKC

February is one of the colder months in Oklahoma City; in fact, our cold season usually centers around February.  This year has been no exception – while it was in the 60s the other day, most days of the month have been freezing cold.  To that extent, very few people want to be outside during the month.  Fortunately, there are a variety of events for OKC citizens and visitors to attend that don’t require spending a lot of time out in the chilly weather.

Only in OKC – Will’s, Saturn Grill, and Madison’s

Are you hungry?  I hope so, because I have three great places to eat for you!  I love to eat out, so much so that sometimes, I’ll actually have every meal at a restaurant.  Here are three of my favorite places that you can hit in a day, so if you’re looking to plan out your breakfast, lunch, and dinner, here’s one possible combination.

Breakfast – Will’s Coffee

Located on Western in the Will Rogers Theater (near Musashi’s and Sushi Neko), Will’s Coffee is a little coffee shop that offers a nice variety of drinks, pastries, and sandwiches.  The prices aren’t any more expensive than Starbucks, and in my opinion, the drinks are better.  The people at Will’s are always very friendly, too

Only in OKC – Bricktown

Oklahoma City has several unique areas that are great to visit, and one of these is Bricktown, the downtown area that the city has spent the past five years building up.  I remember a time when there wasn’t much to do in downtown Oklahoma City other than visiting the Civic Center for performances or walking around the Myriad Gardens.  Now, Bricktown has become a major hub in the city.

It all started with the building of the Bricktown Ballpark.  The ballpark is one of the major draws to the area, and it’s been rated one of the nicest minor league stadiums in the country.  Mickey Mantle Stadium, as it is properly called, lights up the area regularly with baseball games and other events.
