Convention Update – TrekExpo 2009

If you love science fiction and fantasy, mark the last weekend of June.  That’s when TrekExpo is held in Tulsa.  The largest pure science fiction convention in Oklahoma (Soonercon is also large, but it’s not purely a sci-fi television/movie convention), TrekExpo always has a large number of guests.  Most are from the various Star Trek series, although they always try to have several other sci-fi series’ stars there as well.

Trek Expo 2008 – June 6, 7, and 8

If you’re a science fiction fan in Oklahoma, you won’t find very many events to go to.  For whatever reason, the number of sci-fi conventions sharply dropped off about five years ago.  There used to be five or six a year, and now, there’s really only one: Trek Expo.  The Expo started out in Oklahoma City, then moved to Tulsa.  While it’s not strictly an OKC event any longer, I thought I’d post about it since it’s a huge Oklahoma event for fans of science fiction and fantasy.  Plus, Tulsa isn’t that far from OKC, and if you’re here visiting, it makes a nice little side trip.

Soonercon – June 6, 7, and 8

“Here there be pirates!” That’s the theme of the 2008 Soonercon, a convention of sci-fi, fantasy, and gaming fans. The convention focuses more on authors, artists, and general fandom than it does on big name television and movie stars, and it features a number of events that other conventions don’t. This year’s Soonercon is June 6, 7, and 8 at the Biltmore Hotel in Oklahoma City.

This year’s guest of honor is fantasy author John Ringo. He will be joined by artist guest of honor Tom Kidd, Toastmaster Selina Rosen, and special guests Gary FriedRich, Count Gregor, and Larry Nemecek. In addition these headline guests, many other authors and artists will be attending Soonercon. I’m especially looking forward to meeting Julie Kenner, one of my favorite authors.
