It’s that time of year again: time for the Festival of the Arts! This great event has been going on since 1967, and in a way, it’s not really spring here in OKC until the Arts Festival is in full swing. This year, the festival will be April 24 through 29, and as always, it will be held at the Festival Plaza and Myriad Botanical Gardens in downtown Oklahoma City. Admissions is free! The festival opens at 11 a.m. each day and closes at 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. On Sunday, the festival will end at 6 p.m.
The Myriad Gardens and the Crystal Bridge, a major landmark in downtown Oklahoma City, have been closed for just slightly over a year due to major renovations. The upgrades to the gardens are a part of Project 180, a $140 million dollar package that includes many different improvements to downtown OKC, including a redesign of the streets, parks, and plazas. The construction began in August of 2010 and won’t be completely finished until January 2014. As part of this year’s Festival of the Arts (April 26 – May 1), the Myriad Gardens will be reopening.
