Looking for something to do this September in Oklahoma City? Why not attend one of these events?

The Oklahoma History Center is hosting an event called “The Return of Elegance” all this month. It showcases 29 different evening gowns worn by top Oklahoma women from 1912 to 1985. A must-see if you’re into fashion.

While it’s not October yet, it is time for Oktoberfest in the Park at the Choctaw Creek Park. This event featuring German cuisine and beers takes place September 2-4 and 7-10.

Baseball season is wrapping up! September 2 – 5 is the last RedHawks game at the Bricktown Ballpark. They play against New Orleans.

Every year, there are different events and specials in Oklahoma City for Valentine’s Day.  This special romantic day is a great day for celebration, so take your significant other out and show him or her an awesome time (and then go home and snuggle!).  Here are some great V-Day events happening this year.

If your significant other is a big fan of the OKC Thunder sports team, send them a personalized Valentine’s Day message and gifts delivered by the Thunder mascot Rumble the Bison.  He will make his deliveries from February 11 to the 14.  In addition to the gift basket you select, Rumble will take a picture with the recipient and sign autographs.

Altered Books Presents A Different Look at Books

I love books.  I’ve got shelves overflowing with books, and yet I keep buying more and more of them.  While I don’t mind lending my books to family and friends, it’s no secret that I’m very protective of my collection.  I don’t want any of my books damaged.  Because of this, I found the idea of the Altered Books exhibit a bit unsettling…they were taking books and using them as raw material in art!

The Uncanny Adventures of Okie Artists

Oklahoma is known for producing some amazing stars.  We’re home to country music stars like Reba McEntire and Garth Brooks, comedian and actress Megan Mullally, and, of course, Will Rogers.  But few people know that Oklahoma is also home to a number of famous comic artists and writers.

I’m a pretty big comic book fan, but I had no clue that our state was home to people like Sterling Gates.  Mr. Gates has written many titles for DC Comics, including Superman: Secret Files, Green Lantern Corps, and Supergirl.  Then there’s Chester Gould, the man who created Dick Tracey.  He’s from Pawnee, Oklahoma.  Another famous Oklahoma comic writer is Archie Goodwin, a Tulsa native who has written for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and did the comic adaptations of the Star Wars movies.
